It’s summer and my kids are on vacation. Consequently, all they want to do is play video games and watch TV. I don’t let them, which causes much turmoil in our household. I try to entice them to go play outside, but they respond as if I was punishing them. They just slump on the couch droning “I’m bored! There’s nothing to do!”.
So imagine the shock I got when I happened upon the story of Caine Monroy, a 9-year old boy who spent his summer vacation building an elaborate DIY cardboard arcade in his dad’s used auto parts store. I was floored. Here is a kid that used his imagination and ingenuity to keep himself busy. And the rest, as the saying goes, is history.
I must admit that the room got very dusty after I was done watching this short-film produced by Nirvan Mullick. What can I say; I’m just a sucker for feel-good stories. And this is a doozy.
P.S. If you wish to find out more about this amazing kid, visit Caine’s Arcade.
P.P.S. Right after I posted this blog entry, I found this cute video about Jack Black and his kids playing at the arcade. This kid is gonna go far.
