Game of Thrones : History of the Targaryens

There are two things you ought to know about me concerning fantasy stories. The first is that I simply cannot read books of this genre. Believe me, I’ve tried. When it was announced that Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy was coming out in theaters, I laborer through the three volumes by J. R.R. Tolkien (so very long; so much walking!). Never again.

The second is that, despite my aversion to the written word when it comes to elves, orcs and dragons, I simply adore watching these types of stories on the big and small screen.

Don’t ask me why the first is like going to the dentist while the latter is Christmas to me, I can’t explain it. That’s just the way things are.

Having said all that, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I absolutely adore the Game of Thrones TV series but cannot, for the life of me, go near George R. R. Martin’s novels. My lovely wife (who has an extensive fantasy library and has read all the books numerous times) keeps telling me that I’m missing out because the volumes go into greater depth about family histories and character development. But now, thanks to Comic Book Girl 19, that is no longer the case. This pop culture reporter (and self-appointed #1 Game of Thrones fan) dramatically explains the long history of each great family and how these annals lead up to the events of seasons 1 and 2.

In this first episode, she gives us the lowdown on House Targaryen. But be warned, this video has severe spoilers, so go watch the shows and then come back to this insightful vlog. It will enrich your watching experience. Enjoy.
