Best Comics: Fury Max

Don’t be fooled by the title. Yes, these are stories involving Marvel’s Nick Fury (the original white guy with a patch, not the new Samuel L. Jackson version). But this amazing series has nothing to do with superheroes and helicarriers. This is obvious right from the start.

This comic book is Nick Fury’s personal journal about his very real-world experiences in various armed conflicts around the world. Consequently, it is filled with violence, sex and foul language. And if that isn’t incentive enough to read this comic, all you need to know is that it’s written by Garth Ennis. This author is usually hit and miss with me, but when it comes to unromanticized war stories, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone better at portraying the ugliness and futility of combat. I highly recommend this title.
