Wonder Woman first appeared in All Star Comics #8 (December 1941). She is the creation of Mr. William Moulton Marston, an American psychologist, feminist theorist (don’t ask, ’cause I have no clue what that is) and inventor (he developed the polygraph, precursor to our heroin’s magic lasso).
In this Amazonian princess warrior, he sought to epitomize his ideal of the perfect woman : stong and powerful, yet tender, submissive and peace-loving (his words, not mine, so no nasty comments please).
Wonder Woman has gone through many iterations since then but remains a feminist icon to this day. All I can say is, you’ve come a long way, baby.
